The original was published in 1958. This photography book features 83 selected snapshots from approximately 28,000 taken by Swiss photographer Robert Frank during a two-year road trip across America.
These realistic snapshots, imbued with poeticism and narrative, showcased a dark side of 1950s America, a decade otherwise portrayed as prosperous, by focusing on people from all social strata and races.
Jack Kerouac, author of "On the Road," contributed the foreword.
