PHILIPS - TONBAND HANDBUCH [used]

A sound montage guide dreamed of by German audiophiles in the 1970s.

At a time when creating "your own original programs" or "travel records" on open reel tape was considered an advanced hobby for audiophiles, manufacturers provided these records with sound effects and guides to dramatically improve the quality of that original content.
It is believed to have been distributed to purchasers of PHILIPS open reel tape (Tonband) at the time.

The record contains 16 professional sound effects, such as church bells and car crashes, which would have been difficult for individual users to record at the time.
The red dots on the jacket design are reminiscent of the control buttons and indicators on audio equipment, and the overall minimalist layout and typography evoke post-Bauhaus German functionalism.
