The world of delightful wooden animal carvings from Oaxaca, Mexico, will delight you with their vivid colors and humorous expressions.

Oaxacan wood carvings are wooden dolls that were first made by Manuel Jimenez, who lived in the village of San Antonio Arrasula in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico, in the late 1950s.
The unique style, which retains the simplicity of handcrafted art while incorporating bold color schemes and forms, attracted the attention of Alexander Girard, a leading mid-century interior designer, and the pieces became popular among collectors and tourists around the world as Mexican folk art.
This book introduces 130 animals, including those collected by Hamada Shoji, Horiuchi Seiichi, Yunoki Samiro, Yanagi Sori, and Yamamoto Noriyuki.
