[WALLFLOWER CATALOGUE]FILE 005. ○(maru) “Hibiki”
Cherish the sounds of everyday life
As long as we are born on Earth and live, is it possible to "live alone"? To be alive is to resonate with beings other than yourself.
Even when we are asleep, our subconscious is influenced by various things: the sound of rain and wind outside the window, delivery bikes, the light through the curtains, the birds singing, etc. It's fun to imagine that the sounds we make are also one of the sounds that make up someone else's world. Perhaps we are unconsciously striking the perfect cymbal, or failing to strike it.
"Hibiki" is an LP record by the unit ⚪︎(maru), consisting of Katsuya Takamizawa, who works in sound design and video, and Junko Takamizawa, a pianist, singer-songwriter, and music therapist. Perhaps the reason why "hibiki" is called "Hibiki" instead of "Hibiki" (resonance) is because it has a meaning similar to "daily diary." The sounds of waves, ducks, festival music, and sketches of the duo's daily lives and travel destinations overlap with the piano and guitar, dissolving the boundaries with the listener's daily life like the bleeding of watercolor paint.
What catches the eye is the cardboard sleeve case by Takeuchi Shiki Seisakusho, with woodblock prints by woodworker Shun Sekiya pasted on it. The appearance, which could not have been achieved with just paper or wood, gives the impression of being somewhere between a product and art, and the resonance between the material and the sensibility directly expresses the world of this music.
Life and our daily lives are made up of a variety of overlapping sounds. Receive the sounds. Give them a ring.
I hope that the sounds and things that people create will have a serene and beautiful resonance like this piece.
