Fairground Attraction is a British band formed around composer/guitarist Mark Nevin and singer Eddi Reader. This is their debut and only original album, released in 1988.
The original songs, led by the hit "Perfect" (A2) which reached #1 in the UK, already have the feel of standard numbers, and the acoustic sound, incorporating roots music like country, jazz, and Cajun, reflects a pure and youthful sensibility despite its understated musicality.
The unpretentious, friendly atmosphere throughout the album, like a busking band, is also appealing.
The cover features a cropped photograph taken in 1955 by American photographer Elliott Erwitt.
