Michigan musician Erik Hall's 4th album released in 2023.
Following his previous work on Reich's ``Music for 18 Musicians,'' his theme this time is ``Canto Ostinato,'' a masterpiece by Dutch minimalist artist Simeon ten Holt.
The score, originally written for four pianos, made use of three keyboards: a 1962 Hammond M-101 organ, a 1978 Rose Mark (electric piano), and a 1910 Steinway (grand piano). Reconstructed with layers of live recordings.
This is a dense piece that records the process of mathematical repetition turning into a fantastical texture in the everyday atmosphere of home recording.
