Originally published in 1958, this photobook is a selection of 83 photographs from the roughly 28,000 snapshots taken by Swiss photographer Robert Frank during a two-year road trip across the United States. The series of snapshots, which focused on people of all classes and races and were filled with poetry and narrative quality within their realistic expressions, powerfully portrayed the dark side of 1950s America, a time when images of prosperity were the norm. The book features a foreword by Jack Kerouac, author of On the Road.
