A 1977 single by British punk rock band The Clash.
The title track of A1 is a version that starts with a siren sound, unlike the album. The lyrics are said to be inspired by the riots by black youths that occurred at The Notting Hill Carnival in 1976, and agitate for "your own riot" against issues such as poverty and oppression, regardless of your own race.
The B-side, "1977," declares, "In 1977, Elvis, The Beatles, and The Stones mean nothing anymore."
The cover photo, by journalist Caroline Kuhn, who is also known for her work with The Police, also reflects the song's sense of urgent tension.
An album that succinctly and perfectly packages the attitude and atmosphere of early punk rock.
