I can't be satisfied
The beginning of autumn has passed and the end of the summer heat is finally here. After a brief period of coolness, Matsumoto is now experiencing the lingering heat of summer, but the mornings and evenings are starting to feel a little more comfortable. Perhaps it's because I'm getting older, but the seemingly endless heat and the chirping of cicadas seem to pass by in the blink of an eye.
Just as we will not be able to meet the cicadas born this summer again next year, this summer only comes once.
Not just in summer, but each day and season is a special one-off for everyone...
Today, let's turn back the clock to 60 years ago.
The term "1960s" evokes a sense of longing for rock fans. 1965 in particular is a symbolic year, marking the debut of The Who in the UK, the Kinks' chart success, and the emergence of The Byrds in the US. The Beatles reached the pinnacle of their creativity with the groundbreaking album "Rubber Soul." It was also the year that The Rolling Stones dominated the charts with "Satisfaction," marking their final ascent to stardom.
This book is a nostalgic collection of photos that captures the Rolling Stones' final summer vacation, just before they transformed from shining pebbles into unique diamonds. The details of the collection are available on rovakk musikk's page and podcast, but the identity of the photographer of the series of photographs, which were discovered in a box at a Southern California flea market, remains a mystery.
The pale, ephemeral colors of the faded prints are irresistible, but what's particularly striking is the vulnerable expressions of the band members. Mick Jagger has an almost childlike innocence, and Keith Richards has sharp yet sensitive eyes. Charlie Watts's unpretentious mannerisms, Bill Wyman's mature composure, and Brian Jones's elusive presence can also be seen. Ian Stewart, who was called the sixth Stones, can also be seen.
Who was able to take such close-up photos of the members?
It's a fascinating mystery, and knowing that a song written in a hotel during their North American tour changed their destiny makes those innocent seasons of laughter by the pool seem all the more precious.
The cover, while not too special, subtly symbolizes the era when rock stars were still small stones. Removing the embossed cover reveals a charming, simple line drawing of a hairstyle (a portrait?), making this a book that leaves a lasting impression and goes beyond mere nostalgia.
Even so, can't we ask Mick or Keith who took this photo? The essay at the end of the book mentions the existence of a certain girl, but perhaps it's best to leave the mystery as it is.
The owner of rovakk musikk's podcast provides a more wonderful introduction to this mysterious photo book.
Let's enjoy this fading summer to the fullest while thinking back to our youth 60 years ago.
