Towards a new world through your senses
When you pick up a record that catches your eye, you're delighted to hear the music you wanted to hear. I think this is a happy moment that anyone who has bought a record based on its cover has probably experienced.
That's how this artwork caught my heart. The bleak white and blue mountain scenery, and the dazzling lines of exposed film coolly interrupt the fantasy of a faraway place.
Was the exposure of the film intentional, coincidental, or an artistic process? I don't know the photographer Lisana Preteni's intentions, but I can understand why she chose this photo for the cover. The fact that the artist herself also worked on the design means that the mood of the photo must have fit this piece.
As you doze off into the stylish, mellow, quiet, jazzy sound world, you'll be greeted with daydream-like afterimages and a mysterious sense of incongruity. Just the sound or the cover art will have you feeling drawn into a crack in the everyday, like a David Lynch film.
Ol' Burger Beats is a hip-hop artist and is said to be "Norway's leading genius beatmaker." You might pass him by thinking, "Hip-hop, rap, and clubs are worlds that have nothing to do with me!" But even a slight sense of incongruity or a catch in the artwork can lead to an encounter, so you shouldn't let your guard down.
I think that if you listen to a work after learning about its culture and history, or if you listen to it in context, you will be respecting the work. But if you don't think about such difficult things and just follow your instincts and grab what catches your eye, you might discover a new world that fits you.
It would be great if we could create and design opportunities that would allow people who would never meet under normal circumstances to meet each other.
Anyway, the sound and artwork somehow seem to fit together. If it catches your eye, give it a listen without any preconceived ideas.
