[WALLFLOWER CATALOGUE] FILE 013. “Lia Darjes - PLATES I-XXXI “
Wow, I've been found!
A deep green book that stands at the entrance to a forest. Hiding behind the trees are forest dwellers who live in a world different from that of humans. However, when a bright light is suddenly shone on it, their secret time emerges.
The silhouettes that peek out from the stylish velvet cover seem to hint at the origins of this photo book.
Every bit of German photographer Lia Darjes's work is perfect.
First of all, the concept is brilliant. She places food scraps, flowers, fruit, and a camera on the table at her and her friends' houses. The camera detects guests who arrive when the humans are asleep and takes a picture. The expressions of the animals that are unexpectedly captured and the party on the table are sometimes humorous and sometimes shockingly beautiful. You will be engrossed with each page as you turn the page, in this fantasy born of planning and chance.
And the beautiful photographs. The photographs, reminiscent of the still lifes of Dutch masters such as Bruegel and Vermeer, who influenced Leah, are vibrant yet tranquil like paintings. At the table setting stage, you will notice the calculated beauty that can accommodate any guest or happening.
The binding is also attractive. The silhouettes of birds and squirrels that appear depending on the light are embossed on the velvet cloth, and it feels so soft you'll want to stroke it forever. The title is embossed in pink to add a modest touch.
For bird lovers, small animal lovers, cat lovers, and insect lovers. This book will take adults who have let their hearts wander in the forest into the world of fairy tales. If you're not sure what to give as a gift, it might be a good idea to give it as a picture book instead.
