This is a collaborative picture book by author Kaori Nashiki, inspired by the more than 200 pieces of pottery created by ceramic artist Mutsumi Kagoshima, which are decorated with flowers, horses, elephants, snakes and other creatures. Although this work was produced as part of a publisher's project to coincide with Kagoshima's exhibition, the vessels and the story resonate with each other in a way that gives off a sense of inevitability and does not feel conceptual at all. In the final scene, a new plate created by Kagoshima based on Nashiki's story is displayed. The expressions that take on the animals when they learn to speak and jump out of their containers are also very fascinating.
