This is a collection of works by Belgian artist Jean-Michel Folon, published in conjunction with the exhibition "Imaginary Travel Guide Jean-Michel Folon," which will be held in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka from July 2024. Taking advantage of the opportunity of this exhibition, the first in Japan in 30 years, the book has been compiled for a new audience who are not yet familiar with Folon.
This book, "Book 1" of the two-volume series, contains 50 of his early drawings. Folon is known for his delicate expression of color, but you can enjoy the unique charm of his line drawings, which incorporate his dreamy and surreal worldview into minimalist compositions. In addition, the book also features Folon's answers to "Le questionnaire de Proust," a well-known question that Marcel Proust also answered, as well as a contribution by Colette Portal, who was Folon's first partner and an artist, in memoirs. The book also touches on the charm of Folon's humorous and witty personality.
