This is the 11th book in the "Des oiseaux" (About Birds) series published by the French publisher ATELIER EXB.
Paolo Pellegrin, a photojournalist and member of Magnum Photos, has published a collection of photographs capturing a flock of black kites at Shimogamo Shrine in Kyoto.
The black kites soaring in the sky above the virgin forest that stretches back to the 7th century and spreads across the temple grounds, and the overlapping patterns on their wings, exude a noble and powerful beauty against a backdrop of monochrome shadows and eternal history, reminding us that beyond their flights lies a realm beyond human understanding.
